A medical referral is a recommendation from one healthcare provider to another for further evaluation or treatment of a patient. It is typically initiated when a primary care physician believes a patient would benefit from specialized care. The referral process helps ensure that patients receive appropriate and timely care from the most qualified professionals.
Patients should request a referral from their PCP.

Prior authorization is a formal request made by the medical provider (before offering a medical service) seeking authorization from the insurance company to proceed with a medical service. Authorizations can be sought for tests, surgeries, prescriptions, and other medical services. Other medical services include referrals to a specialist.
Patients should call their PCP to obtain authorization. Typically, the PCP will call us to schedule your appointment once they obtain the authorization.
