Dr. Alexander Sudarshan
Ophthalmologist/Surgeon
Dr. Alexander Sudarshan, a seasoned ophthalmologist with over 34 years of experience, is a distinguished professional in the field. His academic journey began at Yale University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with honors. Subsequently, he graduated with honors from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he also received the outstanding intern award at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Under the mentorship of the renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Richard Lindstrom, Dr. Sudarshan further honed his skills at the University of Minnesota and The Berkeley Eye Center of Houston. He has consistently pursued continuing education, attending courses led by national experts from New York and California.
As a board-certified surgeon and an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Sudarshan is committed to maintaining high standards in his profession. His proficiency extends beyond English, as he is fluent in Spanish, French, and Italian. Apart from his medical expertise, Dr. Sudarshan has diverse interests and hobbies. His pursuits include traveling, playing the clarinet, engaging in racquetball, and participating in competitive fencing (sword fighting).
Dr. Sudarshan’s contributions to the field of ophthalmology are noteworthy, particularly in the realm of laser eye procedures. His use of iLASIK, considered one of the safest methods, has helped numerous individuals bid farewell to their glasses. Additionally, he has played a pivotal role in enhancing the appearance of many men and women through Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty), addressing issues like droopy eyelids.
Recognizing his achievements, Dr. Sudarshan was featured in the August 2013 issue of Texas Medicine, showcasing his dedication and impact in the medical community.
Dr. Ronald Richardson
Optometrist
Dr. Ronald Richardson is a Doctor of Optometry with Therapeutic and Glaucoma Specialist Certification.
He received his Doctorate in Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago Illinois. Dr. Richardson grew up in East Central Nebraska and studied undergraduate pre-optometry at the University of Nebraska. He received his Master of Arts Degree in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine University in Malibu California and a Master of Science Degree in Health Science Management from Chapman University in Orange California.
Dr. Richardson has had a broad base of optometric practice experience including service as a practicing Optometrist in the United States Navy, private practice in Illinois and Texas and as a University Professor teaching Optometry. Dr. Richardson has held appointments as adjunct faculty for the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and Indiana University School of Optometry. He also served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University Of Missouri St. Louis College Of Optometry and San Antonio’s University of the Incarnate Word School of Optometry.
Dr. Richardson has served as a Chief Clinical Examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. While in private practice in Illinois Dr. Richardson was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Illinois State Board of Optometry. Dr. Richardson has been on Mission trips to the City of Gonaives in Haiti providing Optometric care. He looks forward to further service in the mission field.
Dr. Richardson is a member of the American Optometric Association and Texas Optometric Association.
Dr. Hosam Attia
Vitreoretinal Surgeon
Dr. Hosam Attia, a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon with three decades of experience, is a distinguished specialist in medical and surgical care of the retina. His academic journey began at Cairo University/Kasr El-Aini, where he earned his medical degree and received a merit-based stipend for academic excellence throughout all years of medical school.
After completing his early ophthalmology training in Cairo, Dr. Attia continued his career in the United States with research appointments at Mount Sinai Medical Center and New York University Medical Center, followed by his ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate Health Science Center in Brooklyn and a clinical research fellowship at the University of Florida Shands Jacksonville. He then completed a high-volume vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Albany Medical Center and Retina Consultants in New York, which included extensive training in uveitis as well as an academic appointment teaching and supervising ophthalmology residents.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Attia has repeatedly been called upon to build surgical retina services from the ground up. He founded his own private retina practice in Florida, served as Medical Director of The Retina & Macular Degeneration Center of Southwest Florida, and established new surgical retina departments in Kentucky and Tallahassee, selecting equipment and training technicians and angiographers. He has also held clinical and academic appointments at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in both Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Since 2020, he has been serving the Rio Grande Valley, providing full medical and surgical vitreoretinal care to a community with a high prevalence of diabetes and its wide spectrum of ocular complications.
Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Attia is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Texas Medical Association. He is a published researcher, with work appearing in the Journal of Refractive Surgery, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, and Ophthalmology. His proficiency extends beyond English, as he is fluent in Arabic and has a working knowledge of French.
Dr. Attia’s dedication to his patients has been recognized with the Compassionate Doctor Recognition, the Patients’ Choice Award across multiple years, the On-Time Doctor Award, and a Top 10 Doctor in the State distinction. Away from the operating room, he is a devoted husband and father of four, and an accomplished technical SCUBA diver holding advanced PADI and TDI certifications.
Dr. Tommy Dang
Ophthalmologist
Dr. Tommy (Tam) Dang, a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in advanced cataract and refractive surgery, brings nearly two decades of surgical experience to The Eye Experts. His academic journey began at Rice University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, followed by his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Dr. Dang completed a transitional internship at Brooke Army Medical Center and his ophthalmology residency at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium. He then served in the United States Army at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, where he rose to Chief of Ophthalmology and later Chief of the Warfighter Refractive Eye Surgery Program, while also serving on staff at University Medical Center and El Paso Children’s Hospital and as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. His military service earned him the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.
Following his honorable service, Dr. Dang practiced at Clarity Eye Center and the Lake Travis Eye and Laser Center in central Texas, and served as President of the Board of the Falconhead Surgery Center. A dedicated adopter of the latest surgical technology, he holds physician certifications for the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens, LenSx and Catalyst femtosecond lasers, the VISX Excimer Laser System with iDesign, the Visian Implantable Collamer Lens, and the Glaukos iStent inject and Hydrus Microstent for minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. He has also served as a key opinion leader and speaker for Johnson & Johnson Vision and Physician Recommended Nutriceuticals.
Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Dang is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery and the Texas Ophthalmology Association. He is an active clinical researcher, participating in multicenter trials spanning dry eye disease, pediatric myopia, blepharoptosis, and post-operative care after cataract surgery.
Dr. Dang’s dedication has been widely recognized: he is a repeat Castle Connolly Top Doctors honoree, a Texas Monthly Super Doctor and multi-year Texas Rising Star, and was named among the 10 Best Corrective Eye Surgeons in Texas by the American Institute of Medical Professionals.
W. David Wilkins, PA-C
Physician Assistant
W. David Wilkins, a certified Physician Assistant (PA-C, MPAS) and retired Captain of the United States Air Force Reserve, brings more than three decades of combined medical and military experience to The Eye Experts. His academic journey took place at the University of Texas-Pan American, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a chemistry minor, magna cum laude, a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, magna cum laude, and a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Mr. Wilkins has practiced as a physician assistant throughout the Rio Grande Valley since 2008, caring for patients in clinics across the region and assuming primary management of All Children’s Pediatrics in Weslaco. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and maintains Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support credentials, serving additionally as a Basic Life Support/CPR instructor.
His distinguished military career spans 28 years with the U.S. Air Force Reserve and Texas Air National Guard, from 1989 to his retirement in 2017. As a commissioned medical officer he served with the 556th RED HORSE Squadron under Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Florida, and with the CERFP emergency response team at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, filling leadership roles in military medicine, flight medicine, and patient aerial transport.
A committed educator, Mr. Wilkins has served as a preceptor for medical, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner students from multiple universities since 2009 and sat on the Physician Assistant Program Admissions Committee at the University of Texas-Pan American. His evidence-based research on rapid influenza diagnostic testing helped improve mass treatment of the Rio Grande Valley’s pediatric population during the 2008-2010 H1N1 epidemic.
Beyond medicine, Mr. Wilkins draws on more than 40 years of experience as a health and fitness program counselor, athletic trainer, and personal trainer, and he makes his home in Weslaco, Texas.
Dr. William Brice
Optometrist
Dr. William Brice, a Doctor of Optometry licensed in Texas and Louisiana, is dedicated to providing full-scope medical eye care. His academic journey began at the University of Arkansas, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology with a focus on ethnopharmacology, before completing his Doctor of Optometry at the University of Pikeville, Kentucky College of Optometry, with training in lasers, injections, and minor surgical procedures.
Dr. Brice’s path in eye care began well before optometry school: he spent six years as a licensed optometric technician at Crystal Vision Center, an experience that grounds his patient-first approach. His clinical training included rotations at Willis-Knighton in Shreveport, the Coastal Bend VA system in McAllen and Harlingen, and the Houston VA system.
Most recently, Dr. Brice spent six years at Heaton Eye Associates practicing full-scope medical optometry in a rural setting, co-managing patients within a multi-specialty ophthalmology clinic across glaucoma, oculoplastics, LASIK, advanced cataract surgery, pediatrics, and strabismus.
Dr. Brice’s care has earned him the Best Eye Care Provider distinction from the Athens Review for three consecutive years, and he served as a Trustee of the American Optometric Student Association during his time at the Kentucky College of Optometry.
